AEPSI joins EuroISPA

Press Release - 7 November 2001
EuroISPA Welcomes New Member

The European Association of Internet Service Providers, EuroISPA, today welcomed its tenth member, the Spanish ISP association, AEPSI.
Speaking in Brussels before the European Commission's expert meeting on computer-related crime, EuroISPA President Peter Van Roste said that he was delighted that EuroISPA now has a Spanish member: "EuroISPA's strength comes from the expertise and experience of ISP trade associations spread right across Europe - AEPSI's knowledge of the market and regulatory environment in Spain will give us a new scope to represent even more efficiently".

The Asociacion Espaņola de Proveedores de Servicios de Internet represents all of the key players in the Spanish ISP market, such as AOL, Arrakis, Cable & Wireless, Eresmas, Vodaphone, Wanadoo, Worldcom and Ya.com. and, as an association purely for service providers, is best placed to defend their interests without distraction. AEPSI secretary general Javier Valiente added, "representing a huge proportion of both business and residential users, we are also perfectly placed both to understand the market place and campaign for the best possible regulatory environment".

EuroISPA was established to achieve several important goals. First, to protect and promote the interests of Europe as a whole within the global Internet, securing for Europe a premier position in the key industry of the new Millenium. Secondly, to help deliver the benefits of this new technology of liberation and empowerment to individuals, while at the same time meeting the legitimate concerns of parents and others responsible for the weaker members of society. Thirdly, to encourage the development of a free and open telecommunications market, something of great benefit to society as a whole and essential to the healthy development of the Internet. And finally, to promote the interests of our members and provide common services to them where these cannot be had elsewhere.
