Industry Forum Launch

Press Release - 18 November 2002
EuroISPA Launches Industry Forum

The European Association of Internet Service Providers, EuroISPA, today launched the EuroISPA Industry Forum.

The EuroISPA Industry Forum is a platform for companies to discuss common regulatory issues with a pan European impact, and to share their industry practice with the EuroISPA Council. The Industry Forum is open to companies with an interest in the ICT domain and the wish to promote open competitive markets in the communications sector and wider availability of goods and services online.

Speaking in Brussels at the inaugural meeting of the Industry Forum, EuroISPA President Louisa Gosling said that she was delighted with the start of the Industry Forum: "EuroISPA has grown over the past six years to become a strong voice for the interests of the European ICT sector as a whole and the intermediaries in that industry in particular. By allowing hosting and ecommerce providers to share their views with the EuroISPA board we guarantee that our positions are enriched by the experience of the whole ICT community."

EuroISPA's Secretary-General, Cormac Callanan, reiterated the association's delight at this initiative: "EuroISPA took on a crucial role in bringing the benefits of ICT to consumers while making sure that a balanced approach between all stakeholders was maintained. We are sure the input of the EuroISPA Industry Forum will contribute towards that goal by enlarging EuroISPA's potential with the Industry Forum Members' knowledge and technological know-how."

EuroISPA represents the interests of around 800 ISPs across the EU. The EuroISPA Council consists of representatives from its national ISP association members (click here for a full list). The association was established to achieve several important goals. First, to protect and promote the interests of Europe as a whole within the global Internet, securing for Europe a premier position in the key industry of the new millennium. Secondly, to help deliver the benefits of this new technology of liberation and empowerment to individuals through encouraging innovative online services, while at the same time meeting the legitimate concerns of parents and others responsible for the weaker members of society. Thirdly, to encourage the development of a free and open telecommunications market, something of great benefit to society as a whole and essential to the healthy development of the Internet. And finally, to promote the interests of our members and provide common services to them where these cannot be had elsewhere.
